Hello good folk of the emerald Isle, can any one help as I am only just getting to grips with Irish records and resources. I am looking for info on the relatives and the supposed Hampton relatives that Archbishop Christopher Hampton supposedly settled in Armagh, Ireland.
Nephew of the Archb... George Fairfax (of Armagh) [and Lincolnshire] will 1634 Pcc. prob.11/168/206. Died Armagh, buried in the Cathederal church.
Pobably obtained his Irish lands via the Plantations..............He left behind:-
Wife, Mary.
Children, Christopher, James and Mary.................
also mentioned in the will,
(Cousin of George), Richard Chaple (Gent)
(Cousin), Richard Southwick, (nephew of Archb.) witness to the signing of the will so must have been in Ireland? (assuming the will was written and signed in Armagh)
Also cousin Crant/e and his wife, prob. Thomas Crant/e the Archb's nephew who was Chancellor of Armagh 1622. Rector, curate etc parish of Clonfeacle and Aghalow. :- 1628 granted a glebe in Mullabane.
Also in the will of George and the Archbs will..... a, Thomas Dawson.
Christopher Fairfax inherits the English lands+House and gardens in Tradagh? in the hands of Mr Dawson.
James gets the leases of Ballemorre?? & Ballenoloan?? + his fathers house and lands in Armagh.
Of the Archbishops 4 brothers 2 were deceased before he arrived in Ireland.
Only Francis and Edward Hampton could have possibly been in Ireland. There were many Hamptons in Ireland and most likley not related to each other.
Any BMDs or other info appreciated.
