George Blenkinsopp born about 1700
« on: Tuesday 21 November 17 20:42 GMT (UK) »
I am struggling to find the birth of my 7th great grandad George Blenkinsopp in the
(Newcastle, Whickham, Durham, Haltwhistle. Areas Etc,)
He married Elizabeth Coulter in 1744 in Newcastle, they then had 6 Children. (4 of who died in infancy).
Both their families were well established in the are with addition of the name (Leaton) who was his daughters husband.
George’s will only mentions his wife Elizabeth and his then surviving children Elizabeth and Richard,
No other kin.
I have a problem pinning down his Birth area and date, also Parents and siblings.

Any information would be appreciated.

That's a pretty big area! Any more clues?

As to his birth date, his marriage bond indicates that he was aged 40 in 1744, so born c. 1704.

I see you'd already been given the information I noted in reply #1 in an earlier thread about George Blenkinsop,

Thank you JenB
Thank you for your reply.
I have put all the previous information together but it doesn’t solve the birth date/Place
I have found various possible births but unable to confirm which is him, the marriage banns said he was over 40 yrs old in 1744.
I found possible births ranging from 1695-1709 all with variant spellings of the surname.
I thought maybe someone else was doing the same tree and may have some confirmed information.

Hello,
I stumbled across this thread when researching an antique silver magnifying glass that I've just purchased at a French antiques fair & thought that you might be interested in it as it is part of your family history. It is engraved 'Geo(rge) Blenkinsopp, NEWCASTLE 1742' so it was owned by your ancestor! If you are interested in acquiring it then I am offering you the chance before I offer it for sale on the open market.
Warmest regards & thanks,
Matthew Holder
