Dorothy Alice Clayden (b. 1911?) - a little strange if the marriage was 1914.

My friend thinks there her grandmother Alice Emma Claydon may  have had other children by another father perhaps but it was never talked about in the family, a mystery.

Maybe Dorothy Alice Radley born Dec 1913 - mothers maiden name Radley so likely illegitimate.

I have found Dorothy Alice Radley b. 1913 Epping Essex on Family Search.

I'm now looking to find if Alice Emma Clayden had any other children apart from Dorothy Alice, Ruby and Albert W.H. She may have re-married....I'm going to look and see if I can find out if Herbert Clayden died young.

and also GRO birth registration index under Dorothy Alice Radley no mothers maiden name shown.

I've found it now thank you  I used Dorothy Alice and nothing came up.

I will add there is a family tree giving the death of Herbert in 1954 and it names one son Arthur * born in 1922 death 1987. 

Deaths for half brother Albert in 1978 and half sister Dorothy in 1985.

Not sure why Albert is a half brother.  No mention of Ruby.

That is interesting additional information! I suspected there might be something similar. I'm not sure why the children you mentioned should be half siblings if both parents were still alive and mother named as Radley for Arthur. This must be why my friend does not understand. She thinks there were other siblings but has no details. Thank you for this extra information which ties in well with what my friend had heard.

I will ring my friend tonight with these additional names of Arthur and Lilian + the dates and see if the names ring any bells for her. Lilian does certainly fit with birth date and mmn!
