To add a lighter note - unauthorised changes to my laptop in my absence are usually a result of a cat walking over the keyboard  & function keys ;D ;D

Very pleased to hear that it wasn't just me it happened to. Not being very computer literate I thought originally that it was something stupid that I'd done. Quite a relief to find it wasn't, for a change.

Hi all,

First my thanks for trying to help but I'm a dunce where computers are concerned.

Gadget - your 'windows club' link shows a layout a little different than what I see on my computer.  Your link refers to 'change - screen - resolution' which is not a problem I have, I don't think, just the size of everything.

I click on 'Display' and below that is 'Scale and layout'.  Underneath that 'in Red' is 'A custom scale factor is set'. Below that an option 'Turn off custom scaling and sign out'. (Confusing).
Next down is 'Change the size of text, apps & other items' and a 'greyed out' box showing 125%.

Hope you can follow the above - at present I'm reluctant to click on anything for fear of making things worse.

That looks to be where the problem is, if it's 125% rather than 100%. However if the box is greyed out, I'm not sure how you can change that. Hope someone else knows.

This is what worked for me.
I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 card. The resolution it and my monitor support is 1920x1080.

After whatever happened, this option was not available to me in Right click on Desktop/Display Settings resolution and the screen had gone to 1024x768.

So, I went into Device manager, found my Graphics card under display, right clicked and chose Properties.
Then, Update Driver, click on "Browse my computer for driver software", choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer", and choose Version 8.970.100.9001 [from 13 Jan 2015].

All working fine now and I have my 1920x1080 back. Phew.
Still, a couple of hours of working time lost, which is annoying.

I've checked other half's laptop and desktop as he had big Win10 updates yesterday but they are both still fine.

I wonder if it's only affecting some cards  :-\

Just out of interest, how did you do it, or did Microsoft do it remotely?
