Help finding Irish civil death registrations
« on: Friday 24 November 17 09:05 GMT (UK) »
There is a gravestone in Raffrey Presbyterian churchyard to the Crosson family.
Erected by Robert Crosson ‘of Barnamaghery’ ‘in memory of’ his father, mother and two sisters, then he himself is buried there.

It’s not terribly clear to read from the photo, but the dates given are 29 Dec 1896 (father), 1890 (mother), 1873? (sister, unnamed), and sister Eliza 6th Jan 1925? (almost sure this IS 1925).
Robert’s death then given as 15th Jan 1932?

I have found the death registrations for his father (Thomas Crossan), indeed 29th Dec 1896, and his mother (Mary) 29th Dec 1890. (On irishgenealogy.ie).
They lived at Barnamagery, county Down, which comes under Downpatrick registration district.
Robert is at that address in the 1901 and 1911 Census with his wife, and his sister Eliza lives with them, unmarried. Robert was born about 1860, and Eliza about 1847. She applies for the pension in 1917 (from the 1851 Census Extracts, so pesumably she thinks she is 70 then), giving the same address in Barnamaghery.

I have tried all permutations of Crossan - Crossen; Crosson etc but just cannot see a death registration for Eliza or Robert.

I would be very grateful for a second pair of eyes to have a look and see if I’m missing something!

Many thanks

Naturally, you won't be able to find them on the 'IrishGenealogy' website as coverage doesn't include Northern Ireland post partition, but I had no difficulty finding them on GRONI online (registered Downpatrick, surname Crossan, dates as you stated, reported age 82 for Robert and 75 for Elizabeth, pay to view):

The certificates on Irish Genealogy site only go up to 1921 for Northern Ireland counties. For later dates you can search GRONI's database index then view the certificate online after you register and purchase a few credits.
D/1925/105/1011/19/449 Elizabeth Crossan  6th January 1925  age 75 Downpatrick
D/1932/105/1011/21/69 Robert Crossan  15th January 1932  age 82 Downpatrick

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thanks Gaffy and aghadowey.
That explains why I couldn't find them on Irishgenealogy!  :)
Not very used to all the different Irish sites.

Thanks  rathmore and sam.  :)
I had seen the probate for Robert's father, Thomas, but not the one for the daughter Eliza(beth). I shall have to check out if there's one for Robert too.

Yes thanks Sam.
I've got those - at least it took Thomas back to 1833 - from 1863 in Griffiths.
Great!  :)
