There are some Somerset records available, inc. Mary's marriage Lic.; when William Cole Grist marries Elizabeth Horwood1845, father as Gyles Grist farmer, Mary Ann Greenhill is a witness.

Sorry it's not really finding Frederick.

Just catching up as I had to go out.
When I looked earlier, I had Mary Ann with father Giles and mother Margaret Blakeway. They married in 1807. Witnesses are William Cole; Giles H Grist and an additional one is John Cole.

Sorry, I see you have already linked this marriage.

The 1815 marriage to Ursula Millet is Giles Hill Grist.

You have found my family.  The Frederick Grist shown is my Grandfather and he did not live with his father after his second marriage in 1893.  I have ordered a copy of the 1893 marriage certificate from the GRO and as soon as it arrives I will post the details.

I have now received a copy of the marriage certificate for the above's second marriage.  It is too large to attach so the details are:
Groom - Frederick James Grist, a widower, age 36
He was a rubber worker from Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire and his father was John Grist
             (deceased), a farmer.
Bride - Alice Westwood, a spinster, age 22.
She was of no occupation from Danbury, Essex and her father was Alfred Westwood, a
           labourer.
The marriage took place on 19/02/1895 at the parish church in Danbury, Essex and the witnesses were George Westwood and Pleasance Westwood.
I also attach a copy of the register entry for his first marriage.
Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction to find his birth certificate or baptism entry and to find further details of his father, john.
Graham

I have been sent a copy of the tree of Elizabeth Gregory which includes John Grist (born c1830 in Bradford on Avon, Wilts) who married Elizabeth Gardner on 17/05/1856.  On various documents the father of Frederick James is recorded as John Grist.  There are a number of errors on the tree so I know I need to be cautious.  What I cannot establish is the link between John and Frederick James.  Is it possible John was the father but his wife was not the mother?  If this was the case how can I try and establish this?
