MARRIAGE lookup request MAYHEW-WHITTINGTON
« on: Friday 24 November 17 23:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am looking for the marriage of Lionel MAYHEW and Elizabeth - possibly WHITTINGTON, probably Mendelsham around 1700 - 1719.    (Daughter, Sarah, b 1719, Mendelsham - but not necessarily the first child)

Many thanks

FreeReg have a record from Phillimore's Transcripts:

Lyonell MAYHEW married Elizabeth WHITEING 15 Oct 1702 Norwich Cathedral (both of Bedingfield, Suffolk).

All the best
Philip

Hi Philipsearching, very many thanks for this.  I would have not have thought of Norwich Cathedral as a marriage venue for my Suffolk farming ancestors - but Bedingfield is very close to Debenham....
I should have checked FreeREG as well as Familysearch & Ancestry

Interesting!

Thank you.  jkgla

Fortunately, Lionel Mayhew is a name rare enough to do a search without specifying a county!"

I imagine someone in the Mayhew or Whiting families must ha ve been friendly with, or related to, one of the Cathedral clerics.

All the best
Philip
