Help please with Merchant Seamen and their records

Hi All

New member Gaming has started previous topics asking for help and information about his father.

To those who contributed, thank you, but I'm starting this topic on his behalf to deal with specific documents that belonged to his father.

I'm posting these images of a Merchant Seamen's Certificate of Discharge, number 6694.

Please ignore the name.

Gaming's father was born in Aden in 1901 and spent some time in England specifically South Shields between 1925 and 1933. He was issued with an Registration certificate, 247208, and that number appears in the Cert of Discharge.

So can anyone suggest possible reasons why he was registered with a Canadian Cert of Discharge rather then and English one?

Aren't there more pages to this document.

I was under the impression that, for each voyage, the Captain signed each one.
Therefore becoming a "log" of ships and voyages as opposed to 1 per voyage.

I should imagine he sailed from Cardiff in January 1926 on MANCHESTER SPINNER and for whatever reason he applied for a new discharge book when he finally arrived in Canada saying that his British Discharge book had been lost or destroyed. I doubt too many questions were asked as this would be a fairly common occurrence.
Have we discounted the Ahmed Chief born in 1898 in Aden who's MN records up until 1920 are on FindMyPast. There is also a WW1 medal card for this person.

The voyage details shown in post 2, show that he sailed between the UK and Sydney, Nova Scotia at least twice. Probably there were other voyages.  So as has been suggested elsewhere, his British discharge book probably either expired or was lost, and being in Canada he obtained a replacement there. (Getting a replacement British document in Nova Scotia in the 1920s probably wasn’t an easy task). If I recall correctly from some of Gaming’s previous posts on another thread, his ancestor also held an Argentinian seaman’s book too at one point. So this change of document happened more than once.

Can we understand what is meant by this please as a/the name would have effect on clarifying anything?

I may be wrong but in the previous post the person in question was grandfather rather than father, can this be clarified please?

There seems to be different names i.e. which name is it or are both used at different times?...

I don't think this new post can clarify further than the previous posts without knowing the 2 or more names are the same person?
