Statement of Service Record abbreviations
« on: Saturday 25 November 17 10:01 GMT (UK) »
I have a WW2 Statement of Service and wonder if anyone knows what these mean please?

I am not sure I have transcribed these right either..sorry.

In the UNIT column 259 TeaCo or TedCo,  3rd O.B or 3rd D.B. and 197 T.Co and 17th F Unit.

In the first column marked No orf Part II Order or Authority

He was in  the Territorial Army 45 (W.County) Div 562 Field Co...(n?)  R.E.

23/40,  57/40   1/40   and 58/40

This man was discharged under King Regulations Paid 390 (XVI) K.R. 1940

Thank you...Mick Henry

A soldier who has been found physically unfit by a medical board is discharged from Army service under King's Regulations, 1940, paragraph 390 (xvi) as "ceasing to fulfil Army physical requirements."

The 23/40 etc are simply the numbers of the unit's Part 2 Orders that published whatever occurrence is referred to on that line with the second part being the year.

As far as the remainder, it would help if you could scan the part(s) that have the abbreviations and say what regiment or corps he was in.

Somewhere in his record may be a medical category which explains the medical discharge.

562 and 259 are both (badly written) Field Companies.
197 T Co may be 197 Transportation Stores Company

Pass on the OB and 117 I'm afraid. It Is often the case that if you check other sheets for the same dates, clues may appear, particularly his history sheet with postings.

He was a  Royal Engineer.
