Edward/Edmund Butler and Catherine Rickard?
« on: Saturday 25 November 17 16:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm researching my 5t grt grandmother Mary Butler, She marries George Frearson 18 Dec 1824 Burbage, Leicestershire. On the 1851 census she says she was born abt 1787 Plymouth, Devon.I cant find a 1841 census anywhere for them.
I have found a bapt for a Mary Butler 12 Oct 1788 Plymouth, Devon. Daughter of Edmund Butler and Catherine.
I couldn't find anything on a Edmund and Catherine but I have found a Marriage between an Edward Butler and Catherine Rickard. There are 3 records of this marriage between 1784/85 Edward listed of the parish of Charles, Devon and Catherine of the parish of Cornwood, Devon.
I cant seem to find bapts for a Catherine Fitting parish or surrounding area, I thought Catherine might have gone to Leicester with Mary and there is a burial for a Catherine Butler 1 Jan 1805 Leicester and birthdate given as abt 1764, If this is her I cant find any record for a Catherine in devon fitting that date.
Only records bapt I can see on FindMyPast for Edward Butler are around 1746 Dartmouth and 1751 Ilfracombe and for Catherine Rickard 1746 Stoke Damerel and 1748 Buckland Brewer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried a different approach. There is another child baptised to Edward/Edmund & Catherine at Plymouth (father's name in parentheses):
27 Dec 1785 Edmund (Edward)
12 Oct 1788 Mary Ann (Edmd.)
To add to the confusion, there was also another couple - Edward & Mary baptising at the same time!
Neither Edward/Edmund or Catherine were shown to have been buried in the area.

Hi thank you for your reply.
I also noticed there was no burials, I wonder if they went with Mary when she came to Burbage, Leicester. I also wonder what the reason would of been for a girl from Devon to move all the way to Leicestershire aswell?

I've noticed that one of the records for Edward and Catherines marriage put Catherine's surname as Richard and Edwards is clearly wrote as Butland on one record by the clerk but Butler is wrote on the others.
I think I have possibly found Catherine:
Caty Maria Richards bapt 7 Dec 1760 Plymouth, Devon. Parents Christopher Richards and Elizabeth.
I'm still trying to find a marriage for Christopher and Elizabeth.
