Foundry in Shrewsbury 1888-1891?
« on: Monday 27 November 17 11:39 GMT (UK) »
I have been researching My Great Grandfather (basing a novel on him!) and am researching his occupation. On his marriage certificate 1888 he is a foundry labourer living in Ditherington and in 1891 a choker living in Frankwell. I have heard of Hazeldine foundry in coleman but think maybe this was closed by then ? Any Shrewsbury historians who might Know of other foundry in shrewsbury at this time.

Thanks for any help.
Chris

Kelly's Directory of Shropshire - 1891 - from Special Collections On-line (University of Leicester):

Richard Ince, Chester Street, Shrewsbury = Iron Founder

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Chris,

If you do a general search using "hazeldine foundry in coleham" you will be rewarded with a significant number of potentially useful results. [Note: coleham and not coleman]

This one looks promising:

One of my ancestors, William Stuttle was foreman at Coleham and his son, also William, took over as manager after William Hazeldine's death. William Stuttle junior died in 1862 and I don't know what happened to the foundry after that, but there seem to have been many others in the area.
