Was it the same Ann Slade?
« on: Monday 27 November 17 15:59 GMT (UK) »
My 3 x great grandfather Thomas Annetts married Ann Slade in Blewbury on 5 Nov 1786. The only likely Ann I can find in Blewbury was one baptised on 20 May 1755 d/o Thomas and Ann. I have also found baptisms of three Slade children in Blewbury where mother is Ann - in one case no father give, but in the other two cases a father is named.
William Slade or Pope bapt 18 Oct 1776 s/o John Pope and Ann Slade
Mary Slade or Diggins bapt 22 July 1780 d/o J Diggins and Ann Slade
Joseph Slade bapt 22 April 1783 s/o Ann Slade.

The timing would fit with "my" Ann having relationships with at least two other men before marrying Thomas.
Can anyone find any other possible Ann Slades or do you think it is all the same Ann?
Can anyone find what happened to the three children?

The 'Ann' Slade you have baptised in 1755 is infact Hannah Slade, according to the PRs. Hannah appears to have married in Blewbury in 1779 to John Smith.

It looks as though your Ann Slade is from elsewhere. Annetts is an unusual name, have you tried locating any children the couple may have had, or their deaths?

The PRs have a burial in Blewbury for Mary Slade illegitimate daughter of Ann Slade 28 Jan 1782. Another burial in Blewbury for Joseph illegitimate son of Ann Slade 16 Aug 1785. I couldn't find a burial for William.
BRICKWALL - WILLIAM HORWOOD bn c.1779 in or near Berks. N.B. NOT s/o William & Joanna in Waltham St Lawrence.

Possible burial for William Slade at Aston Tirrold (only about 2 miles from Blewbury):

11 Oct 1844 William Slade, age 68.

If you can find him on the 1841 census it might show if he had a family.

Thank you, so the baptism I found looks like wrong person.
I've found two children for Thomas and Ann.
Ann bapt 25 Nov 1787 and William bapt 6 Sep 1789. Thomas's parents were William Annetts and Ann nee Russell, so William probably named after his grandfather.
Ann married William Fisher in Chilton in 1810, had a daughter Ann and died in 1820.
William moved to Reading and married Mary Moss, they had several children.

After Ann's death Thomas married Mary Broad

There's a marriage between William Slade and Ann Luker in Chilton on 25 Oct 1802 which would fit the time frame. No William in Aston T in 1841, but one in Hagbourn of right sort of age allowing for rounding. With a Mary Slade of similar age.

Such a shame the burial record didn't give Ann's age at death. At least then you'd know the timescale to be searching in.

Given that Thomas was born about 1753, and Ann had her first illegitimate child in 1776, it looks as if she was about the same age - maybe a couple of years younger. Not having any luck finding her, though.  ::)

Just a thought, I know Slade isn't that unusual a name but I have Slades (the reason I was drawn to your post) in Oxfordshire: Benson and later Britwell Salome. Neither are that far from Blewbury so it may be worth your while looking in Oxfordshire????
