Richard Turner b c 1859 in RHOS
« on: Monday 27 November 17 20:00 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping that someone can help (again!). I have Richard in the 1861 Census at Moreton Above, Ruabon, aged 2. he is with his parents Edward and Gwen Turner. In 1871 he is at Ruabon Colliery, aged 11, again with his parents.

I have not been able to find any trace of a birth or marriage record for him, nor can I find him in the 1881, 1891, 1901 or 1911 Census records. I have the certificates for all of his siblings but Richard is very elusive!

Some public ancestry trees have a Richard Charles Turner marrying in Calcutta, India in 1887, to a Rachel Jowit, but I cannot link this Richard back to my tree through a birth or marriage certificate.

Any suggestions as to where to search would be welcome.

Thank you everyone

Craig - Glasgow and Co. Antrim
Evans - Merionethshire & Caernarvonshire
Williams - Caernarvonshire & Merionethshire

McCormick - Glasgow
Costello - Glasgow

Just a suggestion but if his parents are alive in 1911 you can check the number of children still alive at that point to see if he has died.

Thanks Milliepede, unfortunately both Edward and Gwen had died prior to 1911. Thank you for the suggestion though.

Hi,
I searched just by Edward and Gwen, seeing the list was the Richard Charles Turner.
Reading the Private tree list of Richard Charles Turner, they have the same names as his siblings.
Are you in Wales?

Have also looked at the Richard Charles Turner tree, I really can't see any formal identified link between Richard Charles Turner and the Edward/Gwen Turner family.  Have only been able to find the birth of one Richard Turner in Denbighshire between 1855 & 1865 and that was in 1861 and that Richard had a mother Jones and moved and died in the USA.  The India evidence seems quite consistent with an 1861 birth, although I know births can be altered.

Morning Ray, yes the Richard Charles Turner does seem to be born in 1861. My Richard shows up as being 2 on the 1861 Census.

I think I will order the birth certificate of the 1861 Richard, even if it is just to rule him out of the possibles.

Thanks all for your help.

If this is the certificate you are going to collect:

Surname    First name(s)        District    Vol    Page
Births Sep 1861
TURNER    Richard         Wrexham    11b   323

His mother has a maiden name of Jones

From GRO  - You can search the GRO for maiden names from 1839

Familysearch has a baptism for a Richard Turner at Brymbo on 6th Oct 1861. Need a sub to FindMyPast to see details which I haven't got.
