John Pitcairn, Dunfermline
« on: Monday 27 November 17 21:04 GMT (UK) »
I am having trouble finding a death date for John Pitcairn. The details I have for him are:
Born 27 June 1809, Dysart
Married Ann Williamson 7 Feb 1829, Leslie
Last known address - Golfdrum St, Dunfermline according to 1861 census.
Recorded as deceased on daughter Martha's marriage cert dated 6 July 1869

Therefore he must have died between 1861 and 1869 but there is no record on ScotlandsPeople (I have tried every variation of the name, tried using *).
There is a newspaper report dated May 1865 referring to a John Pitcairns being involved in an accident at a foundry where his leg was broken in 2 places. I have found several trees on Ancestry, quoting a date of death as 13 or 30 May 1865 in Dunfermline with the cause being 'a leg fracture that he suffered with for 11 days'.
I've tried contacting the owners of the trees without any success.
Can anyone shed any light on why there would be no record showing on ScotlandsPeople. or how I can verify his death record?

Michael

There is an 1868 death aged 72 mmn Gray but it’s in Kirkintilloch and links to a different 1861 entry.  I can't see anything matching your John's profile

Ann is a widow in 1871

Hi Michael and Carole

Could there be a mistrascription on the first name  :-\ John's mother's maiden name was Anderson? There is this entry on SP:

Ann Pitcairn, aged 56. Mother's mm Anderson. Death year 1865. Ref 424/1 145. Death in Dunfermline Burgh, Fife.
