Deciphering please
« on: Tuesday 28 November 17 07:30 GMT (UK) »
These are both in Fearn.

This looks like Ketwell for William Sutherland
for Katherine  Munro it looks like Parks

thanks Bronwen

Bronwen, dunno these places in Fearn, there is a Parks in Inverness? Katewell gets a mention on this grave-slab, is it in Alness or Kiltearn though?  Fearn names, so home for the wedding?

I read the same two words as you Bronwen and have double checked by converting to a negative image, which often shows more detail.

The only "Ketwell" I know of is an old street named Ketwell Lane in the ancient town of Hedon, East Riding, Yorkshire.

Bronwen,  off topic but you will find that the Seaboard fishing villagers in Easter Ross didn't really mix much with the agricultural community. A lassie off a farm would have difficulty marrying into the fisherfolk.

It would be interesting to hear how you get on with the whereabouts of "Ketwell".

I've found a reference in a genealogy book on the website of the National Library of Scotland :-

"  in Ketwell, parish of Kiltearn "
