Family mystery of Wainwood McDonald PERTHSIRE

Please help me.

I have been trying to solve this now for years (literally), but I can’t seem to find anything.

I’m looking to information on a Wainwood McDonald, but on various records I’ve also seen it written Wanewood, Winwood and Winewood. What even is that name? Does anybody know? I’ve never ever heard of it. Is it a real name, a surname as a first name, a nickname, a highland name?

Anyway, I’m not sure when she was born, but she married DONALD MCDONALD 1776 TIBBERMORE, PERTHSIRE (I’ve also seen him as DANIEL MCDONALD on some records though?).

Together they had-
JANET MCDONALD 1777
MARGARET MCDONALD 1780
DAVID MCDONALD 1786
ALEXANDER MCDONALD 1788
HELEN STEWART MCDONALD 1791
ANN MCDONALD 1793

I believe she passed away 1821. Maybe her surname wasn’t McDonald as is stated on her marriage cert? Could it of been wrong? After all, that would mean a McDonald was marrying a McDonald? I don’t know. It’s a mystery to me. If Anybody feels as though they could add anything, I would be SO grateful

Daniel and Donald were traditionally regarded as the same name in Scotland - my great grandfather used the two names interchangeably.

First name variants were very common (some still are). This is my favourite site for checking out possibility. Some are obvious, some less so.

In a similar vein, my paternal great grandfather was christened Patrick but was always known as Peter.

I would guess that the we are looking at the anglicised versions of gaelic names. I also had problems tracing forward Frizell ancestors until I discovered that they changed this to the more southern Fraser.

Yea it’s interesting how it works. Has anybody heard of the Wainwood name before? I can’t even find it being used by other people.

I note that a Wainwood Stalker died age 97 in Tibbermore on 17 February 1801 - listed on Scotland's People. This Wainwood is a man.

Checked again and there are several Winewoods listed on Scotland's People, where it is a female first name.

One further thought  - I tried Winwood and found a few examples of his as a female first name, including a Winwood Macdonald who died in Fodderty age 83 in 1908. Fodderty is north of Inverness, near Dingwall, so is a fair bit away from Perthshire, but it is such an unusual name that there might be a connection with the family you are researching.
