So do you think I am completely off track.

I did until I saw the 1861 entry and now I'm not so sure

George Coleman is a miner on the 1849 marriage cert
Sophia is Coleman and with her parents in 1851 - no children
Marriage 1855 has same age and father - but she is a spinster and fathers occ is different???
A witness to the 1849 marriage was John Coleman and William & Ann Davis witnessed the 1855 marriage
Her parents were William & Ann Davis and Sophia and new husband James Homans are living next door to them in 1861

1861 has a daughter Jane aged 7 - shown as Homans but probably Sarah Jane Coleman born 1854
In 1871 she is still Jane Homans

So - apart from the difference in her fathers name on the 2 marriage certs - I'd say it was the same person.

If George Coleman died - it must have been between 1853-1854 if he is Sarah Jane's father.  No death reg fits

If she was a widow - why did Sophia remarry as a spinster and under her maiden name.  It's not unheard of but given her parents were witnesses to the second marry it seems less likely

Is Sarah Jane Coleman your ancestor?  Did she marry as Coleman or Homans

However - here's the 1861 entry.  Image shows surname as Thomas but correction has been notified as Homans.  They are living next door to Sophia Coleman's parents in the 1851 entry

James Homans   35
Sophia 31
Jane  7 - surname Thomas (Homans)
Anne 9 mths

Regarding "Anne", I see there is a birth reg for Ann Homans mmn Davis, Sep qtr 1860 Asron.
