Help withreason for marriage cancellation
« on: Wednesday 29 November 17 18:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Another one for the handwriting experts.

This is my GG grandparents wedding entry, and supposedly the entry was cancelled a few months after the wedding, but I can't read the reason
McClean, Kelly, Murray, Higgins, McAnulty (McNulty, Conalty, Kinolty), Morgan, Rafferty, McPolin (All Co Down, Ireland) Bowman, Hooper(Yorkshire)

I can't read it all as some is missing, but does it start:

Cancelled the signatures of both parties?  Then I think it says something about being written in pencil?

So could it have been cancelled because it wasn't entered in ink? I would read it that it wasn't the marriage that was invalid, just the recording of it.

Perhaps someone else can read more.

Looks like the first bit might be:

Cancelled the
signatures of
the(?) parties
married being
writ in pencil

I'm afraid I can't read the rest.

Hi there,

If this were a civil registration certificate in the holdings of the New South Wales (Australia) BDM, then I would confidently say that those last few lines  would likely to be the name, title and date of the person making that cancellation comment...   So if NSW then likely to be a Deputy or Senior Registrar.

I think that last two lines may include De..t Regst  and  (a number ie a date) Jany 1868.

I think it's Irish, JM. See:

Agree with others on the wording that can be seen.
