Hi,

Not sure if you have access to Facebook, but there is a very active group there for Ashford https://www.facebook.com/groups/ashfordkentrememberingthewayitoncewas/ and you may well find someone who remembers the family.

C-A

Hello:

I will try this. After his wife died in 1913, he moved to Strood in Kent. I found him on the 1939 register.

Thx

There are several people on there with the name Brooker, so you never know!  In any case there are some old photos of Apsley Street where he lived in 1911.

Richards, Seddon, Welsh, Clark, Suttie, Ritchie, Tinworth, Harrington

Do you mean that you could find no marriage nor death for Florence Eva, or too many to decide which one was her?

Have you got her exact date of birth?

Possibly married Herbert J Payne in 1936 and died in 1996?

Hello:

Thank you for your reply.  I couldn't find a marriage or a death for Eva Brooker, then marriage.  Although born 1908, Florence Eva Brunger she never used Florence. Grateful for the marriage and the name Herbert Payne and death date.  All of this I couldn't find on Ancestry.  Could I ask if they had children please??

I am grateful for this, it was driving me mad!

Thx  Mike

There are several possible marriages for Florence E Brooker, but you said that her Father had moved to Strood, so the marriage in Strood stood out as a distinct possibility, and shows on freebmd as well as Ancestry.

Marriages Jun 1936
Florence E   Brooker Strood
 Herbert J Payne Strood

There are other Payne/Brooker marriages throughout the country, and Payne/Brooker children, but not obvious if any are Florence's.

This death is from Ancestry
Florence Eva Payne born 27th September 1907 died May 1996 in maidstone, Kent.

There are no references to her using the name Florence Eva Brooker, from birth or the 1911 c. Everything is recorded as Eva Brooker. Having said that on CW Brooker's (her father) death certificate (1968) she is listed as his daughter, E Payne of Frindsbury.

Her mothers name was Florence Ellen Brunger, so she may have adopted the name from her. I hope this makes sense?

I think I need to find if Mrs Payne from Frindsbury had any children.  There is reference to a Payne family member, in 2014 talking to the local newspaper from that area of Frindsbury. He is listed as Kevin Payne - which I haven't been able to trace yet.

Thx again

Mike

This is her birth, so I assumed that for marriage and death that was what she would use.

Births December quarter 1907
Florence Eva Brooker        W. Ashford

She may have used Eva, do you know her exact date of birth to see if that death is correct?

There is a death of a Herbert James Payne in Chatham in 1972,and probate gives an address of 11 Barks Road, Frindsbury.

Worth getting the will?
