I hope that a similar 'talk' will be advertised in Australia soon as I would love to attend. Or maybe I should hop across the ditch.

Hopefully the talk will be a constructive talk and will explain that DNA is not the panacea that will solve all the problems faced by genealogists but simply a tool that might help to point the genealogist in the correct direction.

Too often DNA companies misguide the public into thinking a DNA test will show them who their ancestors were, it won’t.
A DNA test cannot even prove who a person’s father is or even who a persons mother is (there has been at least one case where court officials have watched a baby (conventionally conceived) being born and a DNA sample being taken from the baby only to have the results “prove” the woman who gave birth could not be the baby’s mother and other cases where a woman needing a transplant has been “proved” through DNA not to be the mother of some of her children).
Now the reasons behind this are being understood it can be seen that far from this being a rare occurrence it is highly likely that it occurs in all of us to a greater or lesser extent.

That is not to say DNA tests are no good just that as with any “record” care must be taken to understand what we are seeing and what has actually been recorded.

Cheers
