Gibraltar Census 1834 - tracing Francis PEREZ and Ignacia DE LA ROSA
« on: Friday 01 December 17 14:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,

I have recently stumbled across the brilliant Gibraltar National Archives Website which has the details of their census returns. http://www.nationalarchives.gi/gna/Inhabitants.aspx

I don't know if I am using it incorrectly or my ancestors as missing on the 1834 census ??? ??? ???
Was everyone recorded or were their some form of criteria?

I am trying to trace Francis/Francisco Perez who was married to Ignacia/Ygnacia De La Rosa/ De Rosa.  They are in Gibraltar in 1834 as there child Juan Antonio Perez was born and christened there this year.

Juan Antonio Perez
Gibraltar Births and Baptisms
Name   Juan Antonio Perez
Gender   Male
Christening Date   14 Sep 1834
Christening Place   St. Mary The Crowned, Gibraltar, Gibraltar
Birth Date   30 Aug 1834
Birthplace   Cathedral of St. Mary the Crowned, Gibraltar
Race   White
Father's Name   Francisco Perez
Mother's Name   Ygnacia Rosa

The first reference I can find is on the 1868 census where Ignacia De La Rosa is listed as a widow living with her son Francisco Perez.

More generally is there anywhere that the birth, marriage and death records for Gib are published online?

Many Thanks,

 :)

Have you tried Family Search?:
Eg Gibraltar Births and Baptisms, 1704-1876 (Index):
https://www.familysearch.org/search/record/results?count=20&query=%2Bsurname%3Aperez~%20%2Bfather_givenname%3Afran*~%20%2Bmother_givenname%3A*gna*~&collection_id=1770864

Civil Registration documents for these births don’t seem to be online on FS (apparently they did not start until 1848!), but baptisms for St. Mary the Crowned are: e.g. for Juan (1834) in the “Baptisms bk. 11-14 1828-1848”:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSMZ-YJF6?i=290&cat=459422
(see bottom right)
