My ancestor was married in ML Ireland - any thoughts on what ML might stand for or where it is?

I think it is county Down

There's a Millisle on the Ards peninsula; also a Magheralin near Moira; but are you sure it's a place?

Yes, what is the source. Are you looking at an actual record or a transcription of a record? Are you sure it is MI and not NK (for not known)?

I found it on an uploaded family tree onAncestry, so I'm highly sceptical.

I just wondered whether it was a common abbreviation - personally I thought it could be Marriage Licence rather than a place. (most of the other people on the tree were from Down)

What are names of bride & groom and date of their marriage? If you give us the details you've found we might be able to confirm an actual record  ;)

You could also contact the tree owner if you haven't already done so.

The names are William Wells and Margaret Duke.

The marriage dates vary from 1833 to 1838 - I suspect CoI or Presbyterian.

I'm conscious of the fact that Magheralin (mentioned earlier) is close to the Down/Armagh border
