Sherwood Foresters Attestation Papers
« on: Saturday 02 December 17 17:16 GMT (UK) »
Need help finding Attestastation Papers or any further info on this soldier. Have been advised he was 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters. Have his Medal Card. Cannot find anything else regarding him on line.
WILLIAM ROBINSON. Regtl no  20894 Notts and Derby.  And Labour corps Regtl no 511783.

Trying to prove or disprove he is my grandfather. Have eliminated other William Robinson’s in Sherwood Foresters.

From the military records standpoint, it seems fairly certain that his service record, as with 70% of all records, was lost in the WW2 bombing so the medal record you have is all there is.  A small snippet of no use probably is that he was discharged in February 1919.

Other records may provide answers?

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Thank you MaxD for your interest,  you are confirming my own assumptions. I have practically given up trying to prove which William Robinson he is. So many in Sherwood Foresters. Thanks again.

Hi Janobrien, Like MaxD, I think the record was more than likely destroyed in the Blitz along with many, many more.

I see from "The Great War Forum" you have been searching for close on 10 years, There are several Face Book groups which may be worth looking at if you are active on Face Book, you never know, something could turn up.

Thank you Jess5at Home. I haven’t tried Facebook, never thought of it, though I am active socially. Will give it a go. Casting the search net far and wide. I keep giving up and then it bugs me so I have another go...

Do you have your grandfather in an electoral register shortly after the war? (He might be listed in an Absent Voters section if he hadn't been demobbed.)

I've seen service numbers in them, either as absent voters (still serving) or where they were used to distinguish two people in the same household who had the same name.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
