Carole W & nottsgirl1 you are both supersleuths!

If you like a challenge William Smith's wife's origins are also an enigma.  He married Sarah Ann Wright Parkes in 1906.  According to the 1911 census, she was born in Derbyshire on 1 Feb 1876 (DoB source : 1939 register). On the m/c her father was John Parkes, a provisions shopkeeper, and the witnesses were Joseph & Mary Jane Parkes - so where does the "Wright" come from?
Any ideas gratefully received

Rob.

There is the (probability) she was illegit and born as Wright.  If her mother then married Mr Parkes .......

Marriages June qtr 1882
PARKES    John        Worksop    7b   89
WRIGHT    Jane        Worksop    7b   89

No birth on freebmd for a Sarah Ann Parkes in the March or June qtr 1876

Have you checked the 1881 census for her under Wright

Good Morning Ladies,

I though that WRIGHT may have been her birth name, but your census find wraps up the whole family in one go.
Thanks

Rob.

SMITH
« Reply #15 on: Wednesday 20 June 18 16:09 BST (UK) »
Hi

What a fab set of info.

I too, am looking for a smith annd being driven mad with it.

All  I have is a Tina Smith in Nottinghamshire and she would have been between 16 and 18 in 1971 but had a sibling and a mother at this address.    Another relative in Manchester where she was living and working but went to Notts at weekends and birthdays.

So many Smiths.
Only know as Tina,   which of course  could be a shortened version of ,  Matina,  Christina,  just Tina,  ......   who knows.

Not sure where to go next as not classed as old on ancestry due to not being 50 years records.

very confusing.

Anybody who knows what they are doing may be able to help,  i hope...... ???

Hi Chrissy

Rootschat has a “no living persons” policy so any details cannot be published here.  If you know her siblings name and age you can check for a birth registration to establish her mothers maiden name.

Using that info you can search for other Smith births with the same maiden name to find the correct spelling of the person you are looking for
