Sexstone & Titchener Links in Coleshill.
« on: Saturday 02 December 17 19:38 GMT (UK) »
       In 1754 at Coleshill a William Sexstone married a Millier Tichener. It is interesting therefore that in the Coleshill churchyard the grave & headstone of an Ann Tichener d.1851 is close to graves & memorials of James Sexstone d. 1833 and William Sexstone d.1863. Is anyone able to show a family link for these three?  [There are many variations of 'Sextone' & 'Tichener'.]
       Thanks. Toby.

James appears to be christened 11 March 1764 Coleshill to William/Millier

Cant find a christening for William c 1793 but he seems to have married twice;
30 October 1813 Coleshill to Ann HAINES
1840   Faringdon (Berkshire) to Sarah HEWER
(Familysearch.Org)

1851 Census
William Sexstone, 58, Head, Mar, Gardener, born Coleshill
Sarah Sexstone, 34, Wife
Elizabeth Sexstone, 10
Ann Sexstone, 8
Henry Sexstone, 3
Thomas Sexstone, 6mths

1841 Census
William Santone, 18, Ag Lab (  image is age 48***)
Sarah Santone, 25
John Santone, 15
Elizabeth Santone, 9mths

Cant find a christening for him with my resources.

A Tree has Ann Titchener;
Birth:  1774 - Berkshire, England
Death:  April 1852 (Apr 1852) - Faringdon, Berkshire
Parents:  William Titchener, Elizabeth Pike

Cant find her 1841/1851 Census to confirm if she was unm/pob/dob.

Trish :)

Yes. He did marry twice. Sarah Hewer on 25 Jan1840 also in Coleshill. She was described as being of Shellingford but I have never found her baptism.
William was baptised  on 21 April 1793 but under the name of Saxton.
   Thanks for the help.

1841 Census gives Ann Titchener living in Coleshill House  60 FS  Born in Berkshire.
1851 Census gives an Ann Titchener 75 annuitant with 2 servants born Coleshill but this is rejected in favour of Ann Tichener un 60 pauper formerly servant born Buscot. 60 seems wrong and perhaps too the reading of the age on her headstone (77).Both Anns were living in houses in Coleshill. T

I am having second thoughts about the age of Ann born at Buscot. Looking closer I think that her age shown was 68 and not 60. Unfortunately my photo of her headstone is not good enough for me to look again at her age when she died. This will have to await another visit (bit unlikely) or some kind soul visiting for their own purposes. T

The burial index for Ann Tichener died 1852 gives her age as 77.  That ties in with the single Ann born Coleshill HO107/1687 f144 p1 age 75.

      I have to admit, Rosie 99, that at one time I believed what you are saying. However it seems unlikely that a former servant is going to be an annuitant with 2 servants. The other Ann is described as a pauper and former servant aged 68. Age apart, this younger Ann seems more likely.
     I think therefore that  I need to keep this open until I have seen the original burial record and not a transcription, even if this entry and the headstone agree on 77. The mason may easily have followed the burial record. Who really knew how old she was? William Earl of Radnor may well have had records of his own and he probably supplied the stone but no-one would have bother him about her age. Probably the vicar who decided.
