Memerys and Grays Ringsend
« on: Saturday 02 December 17 22:22 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am searching family roots that go back to William Richard Memery, b 1816 or so and married Susan. I see there are few threads already and I have checked these. I have quite a bit of info after this (tho` am finding it hard to join up the branches of the Memery family.

I have found three children, Betsy, MaryAnne (my GG mother) and William Richard but suspect more. Wondering if there was a daughter called Susan born around 1850 or so ?

there is a Susan Memery born 18 November 1902 address . 54 Thorncastle Street (that is Ringsend :D) Her mothers Name on Birth cert is Susanna

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1902/01891/1734805.pdf

and a Susanna Memery (just over the bridge in South Lotts) died 24 Jan 1920 aged 53. that would mean she was born 1867

there is a Susan born Thorncastle Street 1870 but the record was transcribed as Memory not Memery. Father and Mother James and Mary

And finally ;D ;D I think the one you were looking for :D :D
Marriage of JAMES HODGINS and SUSAN MEMORY on 26 January 1874 .
the marriage record is a bit faded. But the address is Ringsend and Brides father is William.

so married in 1874 , this Susan must have been born 1850's :D :D

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1874/11228/8116380.pdf

November 6th 1928 we have death record for Susan Hodgins aged 78 (100 South Lotts Road. widow of a fisherman)
So Susan was born 1850

Gray is a family name. Ringsend is the place in Dublin where they came from ;)

Ah!
No mention of Grays on the original post?
No mention of Ireland?
No mention of Dublin?

No wonder I was confused! ;D

Hi

Many thanks for replies
Yes, Ireland, Dublin, Ringsend is part of Dublin and Gray is family name
Sorry! Half asleep by the time I got to this last night

I have read through the other two threads and that has all provided very useful information

I had not spotted Susan Memery's death so it good to get that confirmation

The first child of William Memery and Susan ? was Betsy in 1841 I think who was born in Ireland and two others also which I have found in the Irish records so I dont think Eliza , born in Plymouth in 1863 is the same family (though probably a branch of the family)
