William Parks & Mary Reed marriage St. Nicholas Brighton Sussex
« on: Sunday 03 December 17 12:40 GMT (UK) »
Hello [new here!],
I am looking for the marriage of William Parks & Mary Reed 04-12-1828 St. Nicholas Brighton Sussex in order to find their parents. Any help would be great.
The couple had a son George Reed Parks bap. 26-07-1829 St. Nicholas Brighton & a daughter Emma Elizabeth bap. 1103-1832 St. Nicholas Brighton Sussex. They then moved to Middlesex after the death of George Reed 02-11-1834. They had three other children St. John in Middlesex Finsbury; Henry Thomas bap 02-04-1857 being my direct ancestor.
I am trying to trace this branch of my family.
Kind regards from The Netherlands. :)

Unfortunately this is before marriage registration started in 1837. Parish records before that rarely give parents names ( and certainly not mother's names) - just the bride, groom and witnesses.

Do you have them in the 1851 census which would give places and dates of birth as a starting point?

Hi
Welcome to Rootschat

They seem to be in Islington in 1841, with William a bit older than Mary. Did William die in Islington in 1846, age 54? I'm not sure!

Marriage witnesses in Brighton - one I can't make out what the name is, the other was R Newman
Outside possibility it might be Robert Newman who married Betsey Read in Brighton in 1823.

Hello John,

Thank you, I did not have it yet, I can now indeed see what you mean with the witnesses. Any idea how to proceed?

I've put my thinking cap on. It's looking a bit of a tricky one.
