need help Spanish Birth Cert from 1900
« on: Sunday 03 December 17 17:47 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to decipher the birth certificate for Jose Garcia Cabanas.  He is the son of Manuel Garcia
??le?ias and (what is that before her name?) Josefa Cabanas Va?????.  He was born on the 25th of December 1900.  The first letter of the father's name does not appear to be C, D, F, G, H, J, M, P, Q, R, S, or V.  The mother's name I have no idea.  If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it.  Thanks!

I wonder if the father's name is Iglesias?

And before the mother's name - is it Da (= Doña)? I don't speak Spanish, but Google Translate says this means 'Mrs'.

The best I can get for the last part is Valim, but I've no idea if that's a real Spanish name.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

What did you think of the help you've had so far?

And yes, it could well be Yglesias.

Hi,
I tried translating it, the words in cursive and the “x” are things I couldn’t understand. Apparently, the place where José was born still exists: The parish of Saint Tomas (Parroquia de Santo Tomás o Parroquia de Coro) in Villaviciosa, Asturias, Spain.

Manuel Arroita Villaverde, exemplary substitute judge of Villaviciosa.

I certify: That in sheet number 11, of volume number 52, x x of births in this Civil Registry, I certify an inscription which consists of: José García Cabañas, son of Manuel García Iglesias and of Mrs. Josefa Cabañas Valena, was born in the Coro parish on the 25th of December of 1900.

For the record, for the appropiate purposes.

Hope this helps you!

Greetings,

Chiara
