Help me 'kill off' my step 3x grt grandfather

It was in the prison records on FindMyPast. Interestingly there is a George Maycock in Chatham in 1871 but he is shown as age 36 ( so age doesn't quite match). There is a Sophia Smith age 19 in the same household. By 1881 George has married her and they have a daughter.

What were the names of his parents?

He was born in England, that's all I can say for sure. in his marriage cert he says his parents were George and Mary.

What was his mother's maiden name?

If we can find out where he was born it might be easier to locate him if he's still in England.

The one in Chatham in 1871 was born in Hythe, Kent and can be tracked in census 1871/81/91 and possibly 1851 but no obvious 1861 entry!! Died 1896 in Luton, admin to wife Sophia.

He was born in England, that's all I can say for sure. in his marriage cert he says his parents were George and Mary.

I don't know for sure he it looks like Cartwright, I don't have his birth.  In the marriage his name is just listed as G but confirmed the George from Jessie's birth cert.  It says his dad was a farm labourer and is deceased by 1860

George appears to have been released on license from Chatham Prison at the end of 1869.

The case was head at court in Inverness.

I'm not sure that is the same man - I don't think someone convicted of a crime in Scotland would be sent to an English prison, especially one the other end of the country. Looks as if there are two George Maycocks.

ADDED: Looking at Ancestry there are several in Kent, so I think you can ignore the Chatham prisoner.

So possibly from Derbyshire? he hs caused me confusion, Jessie really didn't have much luck with men as far as I can tell
