albert Mort burial
« on: Tuesday 05 December 17 16:07 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am wondering if anyone can help me please? I am looking for the grave of the man I believe to be my maternal grandfather, Albert Mort of pit street, Garth near maesteg. I think he's buried in St cynwyd's, llangynwyd. I am from Lllan myself, but live away now and don't get back very often. I would be very grateful. Albert was a veteran of the Somme and lost an eye in that battle. There is very little known about him, which I think is so sad. I'm hoping to be able to pay my respects someday.
Thank you.
Linda

Hi Linda,

A warm welcome to RootsChat  :)

Would this be the death of Albert?

Albert Mort
q4 1970, M. Glamorgan
Vol 8b Page 64
Birth date - 23 Oct 1895

If you would like further information on tracing Church graves or looking into family history, please initially contact the Vicar who will then find the appropriate person to help you.

Hi Linda, welcome to Rootschat

I have this name Mort or Mordecai in my own tree from same area. When was Albert born? Who where his parents.

Just checked my tree, don't have him listed, but must be related I would think.

Story goes all are related from 3 brothers, been a while since looked at this family.

Hi again Linda, think may have found the family connection.

If Albert was b 1894/5 he was the son of Isaac c1874 who was the Son of Benjamin  c1852.

Benjamin was brother to my X 3 great grandfather David b1843. Their parents were David b1812 & Ann Llewellyn they married 1838 in Llangynwyd parish church.

Let me know if on the right lines.

Hello, and thank you all for such a warm welcome.
Thank you Hanes teulu and jjen, you're both right, that is Albert!
Thank you also for the link to contact Llan. I'm hoping to get a clue before I start tramping around the churchyard!
Cas, Albert's father was Isaac Mort born 1874 and his mother was Hannah Hodges. Some of the family are Mordecai and some Mort but they're the same family.
My mother never knew her father and I've only recently researched enough to convince me that he is my grandfather.
Athank you all
Linda

1939 register for Albert has him single, it is him as with brother in household of married sister.

Did he marry later?

Linda,
While casting around for info. disappointed to note Yr Hendy/The Old House is now shut. Trying to recall last time I was in there - but it was many years ago.

I'd also checked the '39 register and noted the entries for both brothers under "personal Occupation" - sad to note.

Best of luck with the search.
