John Hepburn Innis,- Hull
« on: Tuesday 05 December 17 19:11 GMT (UK) »
I'm trying to find my graddad's family - they were born in Scotland, then moved to Hull. Seems to have been a falling-out as granddad didn't keep in touch. I know one of his brothers David James Grierson /Macdougal (1880-1926) married Jessie Innes and it's the Innes family i'd like to find out more about.David died young but I can't find out what happened to Jessie after David's death. Because Jessie's father has an unusual name - There may have been a US connection John Hepburn Innis/Innes it should be possible to find the family.

My granddad didn't know about his brother's death - so maybe the family have some stories about the couple. David and Jessie lived in Leeds.

Thanks for any help

The marriage was 1912

Have you looked for either of them on the 1911 census?  Where and when was Jessie born?

Have you looked for Jessie on the 1891/1901 censuses or checked freebmd for her birth then used GRO online for her mothers maiden name?

Have you looked for a birth or marriage for him on freebmd?  There is a match for a birth on freebmd in 1861

Lots of facilities available for checking what you already know and finding more info

Thank you for your help. When I first started looking at granddad's siblings I thought I'd found all the available information on the Macdougals but this was a long shot in the hope that if I could find Jessie's family maybe they would have the answer to the family split (and even throw some light on family medical history - David's early death wasn't the only one in that branch of the family).
I am very grateful for this extra information and will send for a couple of certificates on your suggestions. Sometimes they provide extra insight that the indexes don't have. So thanks again
Lesley
