Gravestone Battle Church yard/cemetery
« on: Tuesday 05 December 17 21:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anybody would be able to help me - I am trying to locate the grave of BESSIE EMILY CHITTENDEN,  who died  in 1993, and is buried in Battle.
I would love to see a photograph of her grave if anybody could help out with that.

Many thanks
Gill  :)

Are you sure she was buried and not cremated?  Her death was registered July 1993 so have you contacted either

Hastings Crematorium   01424 451057

or

Hastings Borough Council Cemetery 01424 451057 to establish if there is a headstone and also get the grave number and section  for anybody who is able to take a photo for you

Thanks for that - I know there is a headstone somewhere as I have been sent a photograph of it before by somebody - but I cant for the life of me remember who! A lesson there, to always log the source of information.  :( Unfortunately, I cant find the picture, so can only assume it was on a forum and not an email.
I am sure she was buried in the churchyard/cemetery in Battle.

Hi

Perhaps the cemetery could help with the location of the grave

Bessie Emily Chittenden aged 92 was buried in plot DC64 in Battle town cemetery on 12 July 1993 having died on 05 July 1993.

Perhaps knowing the plot and that there's a headstone someone in the area could take a look for you.

If you look on this site you can see a map of the cemetery with the main plot areas shown.

Thanks so much for that information - yes, maybe I will put out a new plea on the relevant forum for a photograph.

Thank you once again

You could try posting a request for a photo on findagrave  ;)

There is a telephone number in the web site above, might be worth phoning them to see if they could help, there's a friends of the cemetery group so they might have someone in that who does photograph memorial headstones.
