missing 2 children
« on: Wednesday 06 December 17 03:32 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am really struggling to find any records at all for 2 children-
 1) John T (?Taylor) Wilson b. abt. 1851 possibly Dysart-Fife Scotland. He's not on the 1851 Census and I can't find an 1861 census for Dysart or probably Carlisle, Cumberland.
2) Margaret Wilson - b/d. somewhere between 1851 Carlisle and 1871 Leeds. I believe she died as a child.
Parents are Alexander John Wilson and Jane Taylor.
I would be grateful for any help offered.

Could you give a link to John in the 1871 census, or wherever you have confirmation for him?

Similarly, what definite information have you as to Margaret?

Thanks.

Is this a different John T Wilson, showing on scotlandspeople?

John T Wilson age  0 in 1851 census in Pittenweem Fife.  (452/1/23)

(Wonder if Ancestry has him as John G Wilson)

There is also a Margaret Mitchell Wilson age 4 showing on Ancestry with that family (plus 2 more siblings)

Parents are Alexander and Margaret, though.

Is this your Wilson family?

1851 c South Street Dysart
Alexander John Wilson 38 Halefare, north american british subject occ Police Officer & Sheriff Officer
Jane Wilson   29 Old Machar, aberdeenshir
Alexander John Wilson   6 Insenery, aberdeenshire
Marjory Taylor Wilson   4 Old Machar, aberdeenshire
Jane Walker Wilson   2 Old Aberdeen, aberdeenshire

Was Margaret actually named Marjory  :-\

Marjorie is a female given name derived from Margaret, it can also be spelled as Margery or Marjory

Alexander John Wilson born 19 Aug 1844

Jane W Wilson           12
John T Wilson 10 Scotland

The 1851 Census for Scotland was taken on the night of 30/31 March 1851 so
John T Wilson born c1851 could have been born after the census date and that's why he's not showing with the family 1851

Mary died age 5yrs 1866. A very rough draft of the family tree was given to me and "Margaret - d. as child" was pencilled in.

I found the birth 1864 and death 1869 records for Margaret Wilson. She was born in Carlisle and died in Leeds but still can't find John T (Taylor) Wilson. Thank you for all the information so far..it's much appreciated.

I had a look on the GRO from1860 to 1900 and, if John T Wilson's middle name is Taylor, there is a possible death:
WILSON John Taylor, age 45, Sep qtr 1895 Bramley.

Bramley is in the West Riding of Yorkshire (around 150 miles from Carlisle) so it's a bit of a long shot, but I couldn't find a birth registration on FreeBMD in England for John T or John Taylor in or around 1850 to match this death.  It could be worth checking the 1891 census to see if this John Taylor can be identified and if he was born in Scotland.

All the best
Philip

UPDATE - on the 1891 census there is a John Taylor age 42 born Scotland in Goole (West Riding) with his family and a John Taylor age 42 born Perthshire in Halifax (West Riding) with his wife so it might not be quite such a long shot!
Please help me to help you by citing sources for information.

Thank you Philipsearching, that's the closest to a clue I've had. His middle name is Taylor so will follow up on the info you gave me.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.
