Redmire? Banchory Devenick
« on: Wednesday 06 December 17 09:29 GMT (UK) »
I have a record of the  baptism of Jean Watt, dau of Alexander Watt and isabel Gray, baptised in Banchory Devenick, 1 Apr 1787. The script is relatively clear for OPRs, and I read their location as "in Redmire" or perhaps "in Bedmire"

I cannot locate a Bedmire; the only current Redmire I can find is in Yorkshire, but there is Redmire Crescent Portlethen in Aberdeen City, not a million miles away.

Does anyone have any pointers to an older use of the location name?

Hi Gordon ,

FreeCEN has Redmyre Banchory-Devenick Kincardineshire on the 1841 Census.
Bishopston and Badentoy are other addresses in the area so I'm wondering if the place is Redcroft on this map -

The 1851 Census has Reid Myre Banchory-Devenick.

My Great Great-grandparents had Redmyre Farm Banchory Devenick around 1915. They were William and Agnes Beattie.
