One theory on the name Gray/Grey is that it is a contraction of the old french for Chalk being Crai.   Chalk mining was big business back in the day so post 1066 the Norman de Gray family took land in the areas of UK where there was chalk.    There is a Grays court in Rotherfield, Oxfordshire near Bix. There is also a link with Uffington and Kingston L'isle because the de Gray family and the de L'Ilse family were linked.

I can not find a death date for Harriet  Brocklesby nee Gray, Her husband Joseph died when he was about 40ish so I don't know if she moved away after he died and possibly re-married.

 :)
