Marriage of William Glover and Ann Day (Widow)
« on: Wednesday 06 December 17 21:01 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm having trouble finding Anns maiden name, on the marrige to William Glover 27 Nov 1765 Great Glen, Leicestershire.
Ann is listed as a Widow so I *Assume* that Day is her previously married surname. Both William and Ann are listed as being born 1738 and both of the parish of Great Glen, but I cant seem to find a bapt for William which fits as baptisms in the closeness of 1738 - Kibworth Beauchamp 1736 and other in Market Harborough 1739 seem to link into marriages there.
As for Ann being a Widow. Only 2 marriages seem to fit it in with her given birthdate:
Ann Swingler marries Robert Day 13 Dec 1756 Great Glen, Leicestershire - I cant see a burial on FindMyPast for a Robert which would fit Ann remarrying in 1765.

Ann Clifford marries Thomas Day 14 Jan 1762 Billesdon, Leicestershire. I cant see a burial for a Thomas which fits on FindMyPast.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fenboy94
I've had a look in my copy of Gt Glen PR and cannot find a record of a marriage in 1765 for William Glover and also checked Leicester Marriages cd 1754 to 1837 and cannot find it there either.
I have found marriage to Robert Day and Ann Swingler at Gt Glen looks like they baptized a child Robert Day 6 June 1757 and another Elizabeth Day 11 April 1766
.Regards

I'm having trouble finding Anns maiden name, on the marrige to William Glover 27 Nov 1765 Great Glen, Leicestershire.
Ann is listed as a Widow so I *Assume* that Day is her previously married surname.

I have found marriage to Robert Day and Ann Swingler at Gt Glen looks like they baptized a child Robert Day 6 June 1757 and another Elizabeth Day 11 April 1766

The 1766 baptism for Elizabeth Day says "Elizabeth Daughter of Ann Day (wife of Robert Day about two years ago transported into his Majesty's plantations abroad) and William Glover of this parish was baptised April 11th".

So it would seem that Ann's maiden name was Swingler and that Elizabeth is actually William's child.   Although the marriage licence for Ann & William said Great Glen, the marriage itself was on 21 Jan 1766 in Ketton, Rutland - William Glover of the parish of Great Glen & Ann Day late of the same place.  By Licence.  Witness was Thomas Swingler.

Elizabeth's baptism was therefore after William & Ann married, but as the parish entry names Ann as Robert's wife and not William's, the birth may have occurred before their marriage.
