Tracing a family member

Hi there

Im trying to trace a family the 1st 1 is Hertbert John James born 1865 Herts Richmondworks in 1911 he is with his wife Maria B1876 Rutland & family in 1901 he is down as just john but with same family. I have marriage for them they got married in 1893 Leyton Essex his dad is down as John James & her dad is down as Richard Hingston. But for the life of me when I go bk to 1891 I cant seem to find Hertbert John James or Maria Hingston or the years after they was born. CAn anybody help at all to put me on the right path . Thanks
