Looking for John Debrox/Deborax/Devereux etc
« on: Friday 08 December 17 08:26 GMT (UK) »
Hi I've been looking for my 5th grt grandfathers bapt and think I have found it in Barnes, Surrey but wondered if anyone could perhaps see any alternatives before I fully believe this is corredt.
The surname seems to variate between Debrox/Debrex/Deberex/Deborax/Devereux but I'm assuming its actually Devereux.
John married Dorothy Gadsby 26 Dec 1820 Leicester, Leicestershire.

On census records he is listed:

1841 - Cant seem to find one
1851 -  Grantham, Lincolnshire - John Debrex born abt 1800 Croydon, Surrey (Machiene Fitter? but he was also a Blacksmith/Whitesmith)
1861 - Leicester, Leicestershire - John Deverex born abt 1800 No Location Wrote and No occupation Wrote - Both are Blank.

Burial - John Debrux - 1869 Leicester. Birth year 1800.

I cant see a bapt in Croydon on FindMyPast but there is a Baptism of a John Deveriux 30 Nov 1800 Barnes, Surrey - Base born son of Maria Deveriux.
I'm fairly sure this is him but would like to see if anyone else can see anything.

I should think so but can’t find it anywhere.
My 4th grt grandmother is Johns daughter Harriett Debrox although I cannot see a baptism anywhere for her but she states in further censuses that she is born abt 1832 Leicester and in her marriage to Thomas Franks 1852 she lists her father as John Debrox A Blacksmith.
Harriett is not with them in 1851, she is living in Leicester as a factory girl who I assumed stayed as she had met Thomas?
I think my Harriett might be the Hannah baptised 1831 Leicester daughter of John and Dorothy.
