DODDS & SOUNESS:who were they?

This advertisement appeared in the 'Otago Witness' several times between September and November 1857......

I am curious as to who the "Dodds" may have been. This name does appear on my family tree, but as far as I am aware, not in New Zealand prior to 1860. Curle & Souness names were later connected to the Dodds' through marriage.

I do not know who the Souness was but "J." Curle was possibly James.

John? Could be. I just don't know. There was a John Dodds born 1885 who was "mine", father Alexander. This John being the only one in the family that I have found, was he named after the 1857 John?
