George Dowd-No trace after 1901
« on: Friday 08 December 17 21:07 GMT (UK) »
Hi All.

I am looking for my G G Uncle George Dowd born circa 1888, living in Derby in 1901 with the rest of the family.

However I cannot find a record on FreeBMD for a birthplace/Date or his whereabouts after 1901.1901 Census says born in Derby.
Any help gratefully received as usual.

Very strange, apart from possibly Elizabeth, none of the children seem to be registered.

From GRO

DOWD, ELIZABETH    mmn   FORD
1896  S Quarter in DERBY  Volume 07B  Page 555

I can't find a Dowd/Ford marriage though. Given the large age gap between children I wonder if it was a second marriage?

Just found Martin, so we know that the Catherine in 1901 had the maiden name Ford.

Thanks - I think the births I found have been given on that thread.

There is the possibility that if it was a second marriage that George was Catherine's son but not Edward's. If so he may be hard to find as he would have the name of his mother's first husband!

Having said that, have you excluded this one?

ADDED: Sorry I think this could be the child of Walter Henry Dowdy and Elizabeth Pearson!

Yes, sorry, I added to my post after I'd checked Freebmd, so we can rule him out.

TBH I really dont know where to go with this one!

I think I can discount this one.
Im thinking he was the son of Catherine, born elsewhere other than Derbyshire, different father.
Not sure how to get the answer though  :(
