For you interest it seems likely the name of the second witness is probably Mary Ann McCURDY.

She married.

Mary Ann SHIPWAY
William McCURDY
Victoria
Year1881
Reg3874

In the excitment of the day she signed in her maiden surname and then struck it through and initialled the change.

Hi,
The certificate is interesting.
I can decipher most, but not all of it and it tells a good deal about James, his previous marriage and children. I suspect he was a good deal older than Maud if he is the widower of this woman. He seems to state his age at 48. Hard to read as you say.

SMITH, Norah
Aged 57
Father John Bourke
Mother Norah RYAN.
Geelong.1888/9544

Possibly a death notice for this woman, wife of one James SMITH.

She is buried alone at Geelong Eastern Cemetery. Birth registration are available for children of James SMITH and Hanora BOURKE in Vic .

Unfortunately Maud's details on the certificate reveal nothing new really.

Yes, James was a lot older. Born around 1833 in Denmark (and a brickwall).
