Bakewell marriage
« on: Saturday 09 December 17 17:20 GMT (UK) »
I would appreciate some help with transcribing this marriage/banns record. Here is the link to the page on Ancestry for those with a sub, some of the other records are a little clearer so may be of help. https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interactive/61407/RS00013341_4452035-00264?pid=4267772&backurl=https://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?_phsrc%3Doth238%26_phstart%3DsuccessSource%26usePUBJs%3Dtrue%26gss%3Dangs-g%26new%3D1%26rank%3D1%26gsfn%3Djohn%26gsfn_x%3D0%26gsln%3Dstevenson%26gsln_x%3D0%26msddy%3D1655%26msdpn__ftp%3DBakewell,%2520Derbyshire,%2520England%26msdpn%3D82786%26msdpn_PInfo%3D8-%257C0%257C0%257C3257%257C3251%257C0%257C0%257C0%257C5260%257C82786%257C0%257C0%257C%26msfng%3Dfrancis%26cpxt%3D1%26cp%3D4%26catbucket%3Drstp%26MSAV%3D1%26uidh%3Dmdb%26gl%3Dallgs%26gst%3D%26ghc%3D20%26fh%3D20%26fsk%3DBEDfySMIgAAmywAVrwM-61-&usePUB=true

Thank you Bookbox,
I'm glad about Rowsley & gent., it confirms this is probably my man. Doesn't mean they definitely married though :(

This may be all you’ll find at this date, because during the Interregnum these were civil marriages, conducted by a Justice of the Peace, under the terms of the Marriage Act of 1653 -- which will be the 'act of parliament' referred to in the entry.

This particular marriage register contains only 'intentions' at this date, as annotated a few pages further back (see image 214 of 473).

Details of the relevant Marriage Act are here ...
