adding a basic tree to Ancestry
« on: Sunday 10 December 17 08:52 GMT (UK) »
As I have not long done a DNA test with Ancestry I would like to put up a basic trees. I do have my trees on Family Tree Maker but I do not wish to use this, as I'm not keen to have all my work online.

I have put all that I want to be viewed under my DNA/Ancestry but I just can't seem to make it "public" Can some one please give me easy step by steps to do this.

I have emailed Ancestry and get replies on how easy it is to do this, but I seem to be missing something.
So hope someone can help.

Cheers

Open up your tree in Ancestry, chart-view.
Click on the Tree Name (top left of the chart page).
Click on Tree Settings.
Select Privacy Settings.
Select the "Public Tree" setting (which is default, I think?

It may take a few(?!) minutes for Ancestry to update it's database :-\

Just because you can see the change, doesn't mean that it's been replicated in Utah!!

KGarrad,

Yes I did think of that..I also shut down my computer and re started it.

From what your saying is ..I'm doing the right way...so will have to wait and see what happens.

Thank you so much,

But my tree's are still not up..in public view

But even when you make your tree public, it may be quite a long time before it is actually visible via a name search in "Public Member Trees".
That could take months, ancestry don't update it very often.
It is still public though.

They did also say that if there were no "sources" the names would not appear in the index. Don't know if they've changed their minds about that.
Usually the sources on ancestry trees are records found on ancestry, sometimes the source given is other public member trees!

jonw65,

Oh that could very well be why, not adding "sources"

Regarding sources, which I do think is a good thing, but like a brickwall that I have now knocked down with DNA, so many tree's have my John married to the wrong lady and they have stated sources so thats not going to be conclusive is it?

re; can take months..I have been trying to get my trees on Ancestry for about 4 weeks now!

It is still that way as far as I know.  Every person in your tree has to have at least one source link or it won't be indexed which is why you can sometimes find a tree by searching for one person of a married couple but not the other, or by searching for a child but not the parents.  The indexing happens once in a blue moon.
