The Burnley Express of 7 July 1943 reported “Sergeant John Edwin Dickson of the RAF (VR), was “missing” in action. He was a native of London where his mother is a Music Teacher. Prior to the outbreak of war he was living at 21, Livingstone Street with his grandmother (Mrs. Blackburn), and at times with his aunt Ela Halsall at 3, Broughton Street.

Cheers,
adrian

Well I assume that was in Burnley, pity we can't check electoral registers for 10 years either side of 1943

Can't find anything so far about Ela Halsall,

Another article states he was formerly of Clitheroe

I believe this may be the Embley's

Can't find anything so far about Ela Halsall,

LM

Maybe she could be Helen Halsall born 1897 - maiden surname of mother Russell   ???

Helen Halsall - Russell
GRO Reference: 1897  J Quarter in West Derby Volume 08B  Page 494

parents James Redfern Halsall and Mary Westrap Russell.

Sandra

Or maybe not - Helen Halsall married Frank Trevor Gordon Highway - - 1928 Ireland so wouldn't have been Ella Halsall in 1943  :'(

I do realise that he was born in 1922 Hammersmith  Rosie but I am trying to place them nearer to 1940 ish

1921 -1929
Living in Hammersmith and Fulham
James and Clara Dickson

1922 he becomes James Alexander, other than that shown as James (Scottish connection) Just a thought

Still looking for him in London post 1929

LM

THIS MAY OR NOT BE THEM?

There is a Ellen Halsall born 1858 passed away 1935 Leigh  Lancashire - 8C 296   :'(

If that is them on the 1901 census, there is no daughter Ela/Ellen -

Thomas Halsall   43 Ellen Halsall   43
Maggie Halsall   21 Wilmot Halsall 15 Lily Halsall   10
Albert Halsall   8 Mary E Halsall   6 Edna Halsall   3
