Folks,
I am also looking for William.
There are a couple of odd things back in Yaxley.His wife,Mary Ann Ingleshaw,and William have three children before he is transported,but another child,Martha,is born in 1849.
In 1851,Mary Ann states she is married and living with her three children.
In 1911 she states widowed,living in Holme,Huntingdonshire.
In 1913 she dies in Peterborough RD.
I can find no census entry between 1861-1901.
The only child alive in 1861 is Peter b 1846 who is living with an aunt and uncle.No census entry 1881-1901,he dies in 1936.
I can find no record of a death for William back in England.

There is a report of a Mary Ann STRETTON, widow, in trouble for assaulting Ann, the wife of Thomas STRETTON in August 1881.

Gravesites of Tasmania has the individual dying in 1887 as William Stratton and arriving on the "Moffatt 1" ?

Wives back in England could consider themselves 'unmarried/widowed' after 7 years of husband being absent/transported. 
Do you think that might be why she is described as widow in Yaxley?

Also many 'marriages' between convicts and others were not formerly recognised - too much trouble to get Gov't approval sometimes.  They were, however, often longstanding and devoted relationships.

The Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury (Stamford, England), Friday, March 20, 1846 has an account of the trial of John SKELLETT, 25, and William STRETTON, 35 at Huntingdonshire assizes, March 12, 1846.  They were indicted for stealing a number of grocery items from a grocer's shop in Yaxley in the previous December. The police found many of the items, thirty picklock and other keys at SKELLETT's  house - seems as though this may not have been the first crime for these chaps?
Interesting to note that SKELLET's transportation was for 10 years and STRETTON's for 15 years.

Both were transported to VDL per the John Calvin, leaving 9 May 1846.  Another man, John BRADMORE had been convicted at the same assizes for assault at Fletton, was also on this voyage.

SKELLETT's record is the one below William STRETTON's on the snippet shown above.  He is hired by D GRUBB? of Launceston.

Possibly, then, this is the death of Janet, the mother of the child born and died 1874
Died 24 October, 1880 Janet STRETTON, 70, servant, at New Town Pauper Establishment.  Born Scotland.  Cause of Death: cancer of the tongue.

Folks,
Have been away from research for a few days,i apologise for my tardy response.A cousin from Carlisle,Cumberland  and barmy army member,visited Perth and i gave him a tour of our fair city.
I don't think 1874 marriage is correct,William aged about 62 and Janet about 64,and a child born.
1887 death has proven incorrect.
Thought he may have made for Victoria for gold but BDM draws a blank.
Thanks to all for your efforts,will come back to him later.

Apologies  , of course Janet STRETTON dying at age 70 in 1880 could not be the mother of a child born in 1874  .  Sometimes you lose sight of the wood for the trees.    Possible for your William to be the father.
