From GenUKI:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/church_list/GLAMerthyrTydfil

Zoar Welsh Independent Chapel was at High Street, Pontmorlais, Merthyr Tydfil
Ynysgau Independent Chapel was in Victoria Street, Glebeland, Merthyr Tydfil

There are links on that page to the churches.
Garrad (Suffolk, Essex, Somerset), Crocker (Somerset), Vanstone (Devon, Jersey), Sims (Wiltshire), Bridger (Kent)

Thanks K

I have been unable to get an old image of  the outside of Zoar. So if you also know if one I would be grateful.

Hi Romilly.
Yes I have that image and the inscription at the fascia of the building  reads Ynysgau.
That is what is what my question  is all about. It does not say Soar or Zoar.
I believe I read that there was division in the congregation and that one chapel begat the other. My question  is is this what is known as Zoar or is there  another chapel ?
Help

I don't know if this article will be of any help

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/end-era-zoar-chapel-2125912

snippets from article.........
The doors will finally close at a Merthyr Tydfil chapel to bring to an end its 215 year history.

The congregation of Zoar Welsh Independent Congregational Chapel, which had its beginnings in a pub in the 18th century..........

Formerly listed a Grade 11 building as Capel Annibynwyr Soar-Ynysgau............

Good evening,

These were two seperate chapels, one in bridge st and one in the high st as KG said in reply 1.

The Ynysgau chapel in bridge st was demolished in 1966.

The Zoar chapel in the high st is still there, it is a listed building.

If you look at the site " churches of England and Ireland". Go to Methyr Tydfil and scroll down to Zoar chapel you will see a picture of it. Although on the high st it is up a gated alley so can't be seen very well on st view.

When I can get on the laptop later I will put up some links of both chapels. There are pictures of both available online.
