Death Burial records for Margaret (Minnie) Regan in Desertmartin
« on: Monday 11 December 17 13:38 GMT (UK) »
HI

am trying to find the death and burial records for Margaret Regan but known as Minnie. Born on the 24th June 1866 in Draperstown parents James Regan and Nancy Hagan.

Minnie never married and died a spinster, we believe she died around the late 1940's early 1950's and is reportedly buried with her nephew, and a few other family members in Desertmartin.

Despite an extensive search I have been unable to find her death or any burial details to confirm this and wonder if another pair of eyes might see something I have missed.

Many thanks

You can search GRONI's database for deaths 50 or more years old (as long as you register and have at least 1 credit) and if you find it should be able to view the certificate (will cost 5 credits). Will not list place of burial but sometimes local newspaper notice might. If you can't find death notice for her try to find one for nephew or other relatives.

There are some gravestone inscriptions online but very, very many aren't. Also, not everyone had a gravestone or sometimes names weren't recorded on an existing stone.

Added- see this request has also been posted on Facebook so please do let us know if and when the details you are looking for have been found.

Thanks

Have already tried that and we know the nephews burial details but are trying to confirm if Minnie is buried with them. I know that the death source doesn't give the burial details but narrows done the time period of my search for the burial.

Thanks again

Well, where and when was the nephew buried? Was it before or after Minnie?

The nephew was buried in Desertmartin in 1973, after Minnie would have been buried, however we are trying to confirm that it is Minnie also in the grave as there was no headstone to state, the only inscription is that the nephew was also buried with some of the Regan family

Could this be her death certificate?

D/1944/106/1012/13/421    Margaret    Regan    25th February 1944    age 77       Female    Dungannon(pre-1973 Q4)

You need to log on to the GRONI site mentioned by Aghadowey and pay £2.50 to see the details for confirmation but the age is correct.

Do you know which graveyard in Desertmartin you are looking for? There are 2 Roman Catholic churches in the area St Patricks in the townland of Keenaght and St Marys in the village as well as 2 Church of Ireland ones (which would have been originally used by all denominations as the ancient parish churchyard) - St Columbs in the village and the ruined old church in Knocknagin townland.
