1871 census Bellingham
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 09:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi, could someone look up 1871 census for Bellingham - John Ridley 50 widowed Railway Labourer.   I have two different transcripts but would like the house number or name of residence.  The transcripts say Bellingham, Bellingham.  I assume he was living in the village at the time but wonder why the address is not identified? Household ID is 34.

Thanks
Catherine

The original simply says Bellingham.

Street names and numbering as we know it didn't necessarily exist in small places like Bellingham at that time. A few places such as The Rectory or The Black Bull are identified but otherwise everywhere is just 'Bellingham'.

I see it as Bellingham Mill.
Next Household over page is the same, then a few just Bellingham, next Bellingham Gas Works. then back to Bellingham only.

It'll be a bit cold there by the river at the moment. It's minus 4C here, so I should think it's quite a bit chillier up at Bellingham  :D
