5th Grt Grandmother Brick Wall.
« on: Tuesday 12 December 17 17:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Ive been trying for awhile and cannot find a birth or baptism relating to my 5th grt grandmother Edith/Eady/Edy.
She marries my 5th grt grandfather John Haines in 1807 as Follows:
6 Oct 1807 Papworth St Everard, Cambridgeshire.
John Haines
OTP
Edith LOWEN
OTP
By License.

It doesn't list if she is a Widower or not.

John Haines dies in 1818 and Edith remarries to a John Kimpton on 22 Mar 1831 Papworth St Everard.

From the 1841/1861 censuses states the following for Birth Date and Place:
Birth Date: 1783-1791
Birth Place: Parerley, Huntingdonshire or Papworth St Agnes, Cambridgeshire (I think Parerly is a mis transcript of Papworth)

I can see no record of an Edith/Eady/Edy being born around those times...

On her death Jun 1862 Woodhurst, Huntingdonshire her birthdate is listed as 1785

Any help would be appreciated.

You might find further information on the marriage licence.

A transcription is available at Cambs Family History Soc.
https://www.cfhs.org.uk/

Their CD/014 Marriage Licences for Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely 1456-1840 has the details. It's available to download (£20)  :o

I believe that John was 29 when he died (if that's the correct burial) At a guess Edith was probably about the same age.

I would agree with Lady Di regarding the Marriage Bond and Allegation.  Assuming that it has survived, then the paperwork may give you additional information regarding both parties.  Ely Diocesan Records are held at Cambridge University Library.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi All
Someone I knew had the cd so they looked and there is no banns records and just states:
John (x) otp
Edith (x) otp
By Lic
Wits: Samuel Flinders

Can’t see no bapt in county or  Huntingdonshire.
She possibly could be non conformist.

Sorry, perhaps I didn't make myself clear  :-[  Whilst the actual Marriage Licence will not have survived - that was given to the Church at the time of the marriage - very often the Bond and Allegation do survive and are held by the Diocese.  They will name both bride and groom, invariably give their ages and occupation of the groom.  Not all Bonds are as detailed as my attachment  :(

Amended:  I should have said that "Not all Allegations ...."

As they married by licence there will be no banns.

Hunts baptisms online are fairly sparse as the LDS was refused permission to film many parish registers, so the absence of an online baptism doesn't necessarily mean that the family was non conformist.
