mary jane brown nee higgins
« on: Wednesday 13 December 17 00:04 GMT (UK) »
Mary Jane was a lady' maid who travelled abroad and worked in hanover sq, london. At sometime she married a jim brown and had 2 children. She lived in Seatlle and may have died in Washington state, usa in 1918. Her father was george higgins and her mother Charlotte died in 1883 in somerset, england. Any help would be most welcome. Several years I attempted to find info but none forthcoming.

Many thanks Mark

I made 7 or 8 posts on the thread!
I don't take kindly to being told that no info was forthcoming? >:(

How much research have you done yourself in the intervening years?

Where & when were the children born.  Have you any idea whether she married in the UK or USA
You don't give any dates for Mary Jane  ???

Are you positive your information re. Mary Jane is correct?

In 1891 she is still living at home with widowed father George and 2 siblings in Curry Rivel, Somerset which comes under Langport registration district - a Mary Jane Higgins bc.1873 death in Sept.qtr.1895 Langport must surely be the dau. of George (there was no other Mary Higgins in the Langport registration district in 1891 census).

Sorry if my choice of words was not helpful. I put the message on after returning from hospital and wanting to distract myself with some family history. I have spent quite some time looking for her in the Seattle area without success.  I have an address in Seattle that has not turned up trumps despite inquiries over there, or luck with census and newspapers as well as passengers lists.
Very many thanks for the help given

Where has your information regarding Mary Jane Higgins marrying a Brown and ending up in Seattle come from?   She's not the one who died in 1918 Washington as that one's father was named 'John Higgins' and as you say yourself, no trace on available US records for Seattle which tends to cast doubt on the information you have.

I suggested the death of a Mary Jane Higgins in 1895 Langport (where family lived in 1891) looked more likely to be her, indeed I've seen trees on Ancestry that also state this death was her.

We only question when 'facts' don't add up.

I was clutching at straws re the records that I too have just found out it was a John Higgins (no connection) and not the George Higgins that I was looking for. Mary Jane lived for a short while with her father George (policeman) at Curry Rivel but has no connection with near by Langport, that I know. I have a picture/photocard card with her and her husband Jim Brown and their 2 children living at an address in Seattle. When my grandmother was alive she mentioned that Mary went to America.
She had been well travelled as a lady's maid having lived in Hanover Square, London and sending a photocard from Argentina. When I find the card from Seattle I will put the date and address on.
Many thanks for all your efforts.
